I knew Don long before he created Excihiking. During and after college we hiked mountains in the Adirondacks together, and then Don decided we should do something different! He took me, my newlywed wife, her sister and boyfriend to Peekamoose Mountain in the Catskills. The hike and camping was enjoyed by all of us. Don planned out our route, the sights we would see, and the camp ground where we stayed. My sister-in-law still remembers the trip as one of her favorite experiences. And sure enough that boyfriend is now her husband of 33 years and father of her children! I guess Don could put matchmaker on his resume too! I haven’t done an Excihiking adventure because distance separates me and Don. But I know he does not approach any hike without thorough preparation. And his enthusiasm about hiking and being out in nature is sure to rub off on anyone!
A hot streak of weather encouraged a diversion from our scheduled hike. The falls seemed like the place to go, and everyone enjoyed it! The trail parallels a stream which peaks at the falls, very refreshing with temps in the 80s. I recommend this hike for all ages and pets.
A double hike started off cloudy but mild. The second day consisted of blue sky with chilly temperatures. Both hikes were excellent; the teenagers were excited and scampered ahead on the trail when they could. My conversations with the group leader were fruitful, and I'm sure he'll be headed back for more Appalachian exploration. It's the perfect place to contemplate universal themes.
